Going Native

Long before there were obnoxious pants by Loudmouth, there were crazy-patterned trousers sold at the most conservative of shops. Some were made from batik, a pattern native to Indonesia. Over at Ivy Style (aka my other site), contributor Chris Sharp has given us a wonderful account of this almost forgotten fabric once plentiful at retailers such as J. Press. There’s also a gallery of ads from campus newspapers.
